Tomato Mosaic (Andrew Zimbel)

The original image for Tomato Mosaic was taken at Montreal’s Jean Talon Market a moment of visual abundance in late summer. I was struck by the colours, shapes, & textures of heirloom tomatoes. Back in the studio, I mirrored and repeated the image to build a symmetrical, mosaic-like composition. In the process, new forms appeared—shapes that seem real but aren’t. This piece plays with perception, transforming a familiar subject into something unexpected. Tomato Mosaic is available in three sizes
