Tension (Julia Asimakopulos)

Part of the series ‘Encapsulations’, this piece comes from the desire to protect and conceal, but also to reveal personal vulnerabilities and the fundamentally transitory nature of life. Tension is generated by the contrast between the stability emanating from the smooth surface of concrete - solid, heavy and grounded - and with the precariousness of the delicate, ephemeral materials buried within it. Inevitably, this opposition creates rifts and tension emerges.
