自/Self (carved and engraved by hand) (Chu Winnie Cheung)

Hand-carved paper brooch, air-dried, sculpted, sanded and polished by hand. Carved with the ancient Chinese character for 'self'. Each piece begins with the meditative act of writing the Chinese character for "cloud" by hand, before the paper is torn, pulped, and shaped. These works are an embodiment of clouds, anchored yet weightless, formed through ritual and transformation. Custom orders are available upon request.
