Salt, Bone, and Butter (Luanne Dominix)

A cross-section of a fish, moments before the pan. Salt, Bone, and Butter speaks to the ritual of preparation and how food is shaped not just by ingredients, but by hands, history, and place. This piece is part of my ongoing exploration of foodways in Newfoundland and Labrador. This painting lingers in the in-between: after the catch but before the meal. It’s a quiet gesture toward memory, survival, and the cultural weight carried by something as simple as dinner.
