Fallow Fields (Seasons, Spring) (Carolyn Cheng)

"Fallow Fields" is a series illustrating dryland farming techniques where fields are rested on a regular cycle to allow the soil to recover, regenerate and be productive anew. As climate change, population growth and the drive for productivity all paradoxically cause drops in crop output, this series invites us to philosophically reflect on the idea of lying fallow in the ecological sense but also in the metaphorical and personal ways our bodies and minds are asked to be continuously productive.
